It could be extrapolated to entire game, by averaging overall scores for every problem and again comparing to others. And when done for every other player, it would result in same type of score graph, where you could see where you are positioned "overall" for that problem. If your goal was to see where you stand overall in solving certain problem, then it would need 4th aggregate metric - for example, sum of your percentage position in each score, divided by 3. A simple way would be to multiply all 3 metrics.įor #1 & #3, it is good that each metric is compared on its own - it does not matter if top 1% of players for cycles are not same top 1% of players for size. If metrics are to be taken only individually, then maybe only 1 of them, like number of cycles (which arguably would seem to be the most important of all 3), should be used to compare players results, or maybe it should be emphasized in the way stats are displayed and players scores compared.Įlse a score could be calculated by combining all the metrics. With percentiles, you don't know what the top or tenth percentile players for 1 metric achieved for the other metrics and sometimes you might think that best players achieved tenth percentile in all 3 metrics, which might actually not be the case. Some solutions will have a much lower average cost compared to some solutions that have a lower "worst case cost".Ī lower average cost would be more valuable in my opinion.ģ) Linked to 1) : The information you get about other players results can be misleading. The essence of a solution is that it has to work in a number of possible situations that you don't know from the start, not only in a fixed one. I would rather have this be the AVERAGE number you managed to achieve out of the 100 runs. numbers don't match with solution histogram results, they display your best achievement to date for each metric).Ģ) The best score for a particular metric is actually the worst number you managed to achieve out of 100 runs with a solution. Same goes for the numbers displayed next to your name in the solution screen (i.e. they may not have been achieved with the same solution, which imo isn't a fair display of your "best achievement". Here are a few thoughts about how the score is currently calculated.ġ) While the histograms displayed at the end of a solution run correctly display the 3 metrics you achieved with this solution, those displayed in the missions list screen display your best achievement for each metric INDIVIDUALLY.
